Vítkův Hrádek (Vitkov's castle)
This castle of the highest elevation in the Czech Republic (1,053 m) offers magnificent views of Šumava, Lipno, the mountains of Novohradské hory and - in good weather - the Alps located in Austria. It is no surprise that this structure became a romantic source of inspiration for various painters and writers, such as A. Heyduk and A. Stifter. Interestingly, King Wenceslas IV was imprisoned here.
